Besides solutions for printing, copying and scanning, Oc? is increasingly offering services to its customers. This assignment focuses on supporting a new service, the administration of location information of office equipment. Think of beamers, whiteboards, phone- and video conferencing equipment. As this equipment can be easily moved, it is difficult to keep track of the exact location of the equipment at all times. By using a with RFID or even GPS, most of the manual work can be avoided. Your assignment is to build a prototype of a tracking application that uses wireless technology to keep track of the location information.
You list the requirements for offering this administrative service. These requirements are used as a starting point for sorting out what technology is available with respect to asset tracking. To assess the practical usability of an automated administration system, you will build prototypes that demonstrate the concept. You can make use of existing software components but will also code software yourself. With the prototype you carry out experiments to find possible obstacles. Part of the time, you will be working in close cooperation with an industrial designer, who will make sketches and work out concepts.
